Want to print something that lets light through? Transparent PETG is the filament you're looking for. Here's everything you need to know about printing with clear and translucent filaments.
Why PETG for Transparent Prints?
PETG naturally has better clarity than PLA when printed correctly. Its slightly lower viscosity allows layers to bond more smoothly, reducing the cloudiness that often affects transparent PLA prints. The result: prints that are genuinely see-through.
Our Transparent PETG Range
We offer transparent PETG in four colors:
- Clear — fully transparent, like frosted glass
- Blue — a cool, tinted transparency
- Green — a fresh, vibrant translucent green
- Orange — warm and eye-catching
All available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg spools.
What to Print with Transparent PETG
- Lamp shades and light diffusers — the translucency creates beautiful lighting effects
- Vases and containers — you can see the contents through the walls
- Protective covers and windows — for electronics enclosures or display cases
- Decorative panels — backlit with LEDs for stunning effects
- Science models — show internal structures through transparent walls
Tips for the Best Transparent Results
- Print slower — slower speeds give layers more time to bond and reduce cloudiness
- Use higher temperatures — 225–240°C for maximum clarity
- Reduce infill or use vase mode — fewer internal structures means better light transmission
- Avoid supports if possible — support marks are more visible on transparent prints
- Keep filament dry — moisture causes bubbles that ruin transparency
Post-Processing for Extra Clarity
Sand the surface with progressively finer sandpaper (up to 2000 grit) and finish with a clear coat spray for a glass-like finish. It takes time but the results are stunning.
